THE PRAISE-FELLOWSHIP YOUTH CHOIR
Director: Ms. Cecelia Thomas
Worship Service: 4th Sunday 11:00 a.m.
THE PRAISE-FELLOWSHIP YOUTH CHOIR (formerly The Youth Choir) is comprised of members aged twelve through twenty. Youth twenty-one years of age and older occasionally serve as mentors and support the choir in their music ministry endeavors. The Choir renders a mixture of contemporary as well as traditional gospel music. Juana Thompson serves as pianist; Christopher Redd serves as keyboardist, Jonathan Derricott serves as bassist and Francisco Rollins is the drummer. The Choir renders the ministry of music each 4th Sunday during our 11:00 a.m. Youth Emphasis Worship Observance. The Choir's worship-preparation/rehearsals are held Wednesdays before the 2nd, 3rd & 4th Sundays in each month at 6:00 p.m.
A word from the director to all members and parents of PFYC:
This year, 2010, we are "raising the bar in ministry" and what is expected of individuals ministering God's Word to His people whether it be through song, dance, etc.
*Bring a Bible to each choir rehearsal (it is one thing to sing, but I want them to understand what they are singing about through the Word of God.
*Rehearsal attendance is mandatory. If your child anticipates missing a rehearsal, the choir director or choir president should be notified prior to the rehearsal date, not the same date of the rehearsal. We understand there are times when emergencies and school involvement may cause a fluctuation in schedule, however, we pray that the director will be aware of the number of choir members participating from week-to-week and month-to-month.
*Absences: There have been entirely too many weekly absences especially without prior notification to the director or president. If your child misses more than two rehearsals without speaking to the director, he/she will not be allowed to sing the following 4th Sunday
*Dress rehearsal is defined as the rehearsal held the week prior to 4th Sunday worship observances. This rehearsal is mandatory and cannot be missed. Please notify the director if there are any schedule conflicts that may cause you to be absent at dress rehearsal. The director will consult with you based on your readiness.
*Extended ministry engagements provide choir members the opportunity to travel and minister beyond the walls of St. Peter Baptist Church. These opportunities are important and impacting to the life of a young Christian. It provides other persons a chance to hear the Word of the Lord through song. It also fosters Christian fellowship and spiritual growth as "one body in Christ".
The director and staff leaders will strive to share extended ministry engagements at least 3 to 4 weeks in advance.
We pray that you will adjust your schedule and allow each choir member to participate as one body. Oftentimes we receive last minute notice from persons who plan to be absent. This is no longer acceptable. We pray that persons outside of St. Peter will be blessed with the same similar PFYC ministry voices whenever we sing off-campus. Therefore, you are reminded to contact the director or president as soon as an absence is anticipated or no later than a week prior to the event.
These 2010 goals and objectives will enable the choir to grow in Word and deed as we continue in the work of the Lord.
I wish to thank you for your participation in this youth ministry of SPBC. I pray that we will continue our strategy and methodology in accordance to God's Will and Way.
May the Lord God bless and keep you until we meet again.
Musically yours,
Cecelia Thomas
PFYC Director
